It's sad that John passed away at such a young age. If he wasn't such a smoker, maybe he would've added more years to both his career and his life. At least he made it to the big Five-O, even if it was by only a week.

Milner is an unsung hero in Mets lore. He slugged 94 home runs with the team, more than any other Met player during the 1970s. John led the Mets with 23 homers in the 1973 pennant-winning season and had five grand slams (half his career total) in orange and blue. Milner also turned an unassisted double play that ended the '73 division clincher. "The Hammer" was a productive Met who seems to be forgotten.
