I want to let the Mets know that Scott Cichon passed away on October 30, 2024 in East Hampton CT. He was a friend of my sister and they knew each other through the Elks Club. I did not want his passing to be forgotten as he so proudly spoke of his time with the Mets. I know that 1970 wa a long time ago but there may be some of you who remember Scott. His catcher was at the wake and he told us that he didn't want to catch for Scott because "he threw too damn hard and fast"!

Catcher Doug Linehan spent all of 25 games in the Mets system, playing in the low minors in 1962 and 1963. He didn't do too much offensively, but he did manage more walks (10) than strikeouts (9) his first year.

There was another Linehan in the Mets system, Donald, who played from 1966 to 1969. One wonders if they are related.

Unfortunately, Linehan died April 13, 2023 at 81 years old. His teammate on the 1962 Salisbury Braves and the 1963 Salisbury Mets, Ron Price, died not much earlier, on April 2.

Harry Price, also known as Ron Price, played in the Mets system from 1962 to 1964, peaking at Double-A with the Williamsport Mets.

At 21 years old, the first baseman had a great season for the Auburn Mets in 1963, hitting .280/.389/.425 with 73 hits and 48 walks in 79 games. Among batters with 100-plus ABs, he was second on the Class-A club in on-base percentage, behind just 27-year-old Richard Bazinet.

Perhaps the most notable Mets he called teammates were Cleon Jones and Ron Swoboda.

After his stay in the Mets system, he played for less than a season in the Reds organization.

Unfortunately, Price died on April 2, 2023 at 80 years old.

Matt Pobereyko had a solid year in the Mets system, posting a 3.34 ERA with 10 saves and averaging more than a strikeout per inning in 2018. Unfortunately, he was 26 years old doing the majority of his work at High-A and Double-A against competition that was considerably younger than he was.

He called the likes of Pete Alonso, Yoenis Cespedes, David Wright, Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo teammates.

He certainly was willing to go just about anywhere to play, however. He spent time in the Mexican and Dominican Winter Leagues, two different indy leagues and three different major league organizations. He excelled in his final regular season of pro ball, posting a 1.73 ERA with 42 Ks in 26 innings for the independent Sioux City Explorers in 2022.

Unfortunately, he died February 24, 2023 at the young age of 31 from a heart attack.

My father (Tom Whisner) and I both worked for his father in Baltimore, Maryland. I remember when I was 16 my father and I went to O.C. to help do an install with him and his father. Rick was always nice to me and my father told me Rick was a great baseball player and it was sad he got hurt and had to give up his dream. Sorry to hear he has passed away.

Just learned that this early Mets minor leaguer (1962/1963) died at the young age of 34 in 1978 as a result of a car accident. He had a couple good years in the Mets system, but never advanced beyond A-ball. He had one of the best OBPs in the NY-Penn League (.437) in 1962.

Richard Howard debuted professionally at the advanced age of 25, yet still managed to play a couple seasons in the minor leagues (1966-1967). He didn't hit for a high average, but could draw a walk, with 81 BBs in 164 games. He peaked at Double-A before calling it quits.

Unfortunately, Howard died September 2, 2022 at 82 years old.

Catcher Mike Collins spent a couple years in the Mets system, calling the likes of John Matlack, Tim Foli and John Milner teammates. He had a decent campaign in 1969, batting .266 in 74 games for Visalia. He attended Morehead State University in Kentucky, which hasn't produced too many big leaguers, but did produce future Mets Walt Terrell, Jon Rauch and Willie Blair.

Unfortunately, Collins died January 6, 2023 at 76 years old.
