The game of Jerry Cram's life: August 1974 against the Cards. In a game that went 25 innings, Jerry threw 8-plus of shutout ball. But Hank Webb threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt in the 25th, and Bake McBride scored the winning run.

Jerry Cram's biggest contribution to Mets baseball is his 1975 Richie Ashburn's Longball card. Pitchers are ranked from I (great) to IV (utterly hideous) and due to a statistical quirk of fate, Cram is the only Met pitcher who is a I. That makes him a wonderful closer. I assume I have now used him in far more games than Jerry actually played.

I actually remember this guy---an absolutely awful 27 innings in his career with the Metropolitans. Best thing we did was get this guy to leave. But with all that said, I loved him. My friends and I would go to the park (or bar) and when he was in we would scream "Jerry, CRAAAAAAAAAAAAM it down their throats!" After he was lit up, it was followed by, "He sucks!" It might be dumb, but it is a memory.

Still involved with baseball as a Single "A" pitching coach! He wasn't that bad his first time up with the Mets. He got torched the 2nd time around! Saw him signing autographs before and after a game with the Phillies. I thought that was pretty nice.

Acquired from K.C. in a minor-league deal and reached the majors there after the Mets dumped him. Hey, does anyone remember this game? It was April 1975 vs. the Phillies at Shea, and Mike Schmidt was the batter in a close game with men on base. Here comes Cram in from the bullpen to pitch to him and I remember thinking this will be ugly because Schmidt was red hot and Cram was, well, Cram. Sure enough, on what might have even been the first pitch, Schmidt absolutely plasters the ball into Kingman country and the Mets lose. I don't recall Cram pitching too many more meaningful innings after that.

Boy was he a great pitcher back in the day. He sure is a great coach and role model to the minor league guys out there right now. He makes some awesome BBQ sauce that is available to all now! jammersbbq.com to order today!! It rocks and so does he! Keep it up Coach.
