I'll say this about Leo; he made the most of his 50- something at-bats by driving in 15 runs. Pro-rate those figures and he'd have been the A-Rod of his time!

Growing up I'd see his picture in the yearbook year after year, often on a page where it seemed they needed to take up space. Yet I never saw him play. I used to jokingly wonder to myself if it was some kind of hoax. Like his picture was like one that comes with a picture frame and they just stuck it in when one day I was watching the team play the Expos and there was a shot of Leo, with his back to the camera, trotting up the sidelines in uniform heading God knows where. He wasn't put in the game and I never saw him again.

Looking at his stats I noticed something kind of unusual in his first year. In 59 at bats he hit .203 with only one home run and 2 doubles yet had 15 rbis. Knew he had the nickname Bananas but never knew why until I became of legal age and saw a drink while I was on vacation out of the country that was called Bananas Foster. Luckily the people I was on vacation with were avid 70's Mets fans also and knew the reference.

Scott,

That information is close but not quite right...Foster flied to center in his first big league at bat, which was on July 9, 1971, as a member of the Atlanta Braves.

He did indeed ground into a double play in his second at bat, and followed that up by grounding into a triple play in his third at bat, all in that same game!

Leo got into 8 more games that season and finished the year 0-for-10.

Leonard Foster was one of the most talented atheletes that came out of Northern Kentucky in 1969. He was excellent in basketball, football, track and baseball. Additionally, he was a excellent student and was on the honor roll.
