I don't care how bad this guy was you gotta love a guy who went from hotdog vendor at Shea to the pitching mound. He'll always be remembered fondly for that. It's every Mets fan's dream to play for them and this guy actually did it. It it weren't for that he'd probably fit in with all those other vendors that I recognize from the last 20 years or so.

I knew Eddie real well back when he was with the Mets, we would all hang out at the Diamond Club at Shea and party the night away, I only wonder what could have happened to him today. Is he even alive, still active baseball. You were always second best, Eddie, but you were a great friend.

When they honored Ed Glynn with the hot dog vendor's box, it had hot dogs in it.

So he jumped into the stands and showed he hadn't lost it -- he sold them on the spot. I presume he pocketed the commission.

I will never forget this: I grew up in Flushing, not far from Glynn and practically lived at Shea all summer. I knew all the guards and staff very well. One afternoon, post game I weaseled my way down to the clubhouse tunnel and saw Ed Glynn leaving the park. I was about 10 or 11 years old then. I said to him, "Hey Ed I live in Flushing, would you give me a ride home?" Sure enough he said sure kid, and I left the ballpark with a Met pitcher. I was shocked and could not remember one thing we spoke about, but what a thrill that was for me. Something I will never forget, for sure.

It was Mets Kids Photo Day or some other promotion but all the kids were allowed down onto the field. I must have been 10 years old and I looked Ed Glynn in the eyes and said "Hey Ed we liked you better when you were up there selling hot dogs in the stands." Ouch! He gave me a look that I can close my eyes and still see as if it was today. I guess that was a precursor of my sarcasm to come. Also, does anyone remember the Ralph Kiner story of how supposedly Glynn put a hot hot dog in a customer's hands without a bun (presumably by mistake)???

Met Eddie in minor league spring training of 1979. Had a live fastball and good slider. He was even more live off the field. I can't tell any of the stories here

Although I knew little of baseball at the time, I met Eddie in NYC (with Joe Charbonneau) in 1980. Our 'friendship' lasted 5 years, and I recall a very kind man who came from a kind, hard-working family. I believe he may be living in Virginia Beach, VA. He has an infectious laugh, and I hope he has had a happy life!

The Flushing Flash, what a great person. I met the Flash at Queens College back in the early 80's. I was on the baseball team. Eddie use to go there to workout during the winter time with Don Cooper (White Sox pitching coach) Omar Minaya (Mets GM), Roy Smith (former Asst GM and player), Larry Rothschild (Cubs pitching coach) and Neil Allen. The Flash was always the life of the party. I started hanging out with him and became good friends. I lost contact with Eddie in the early 90's after he moved to Virginia Beach. Eddie if you ever read this, you were a great person and friend; we all miss you.

Ed Glynn is my uncle! He is very much alive and living in Virginia now. He still talks about all his Mets memories and still follows the Mets to this day!

Funny being able to comment here on "Eddie". I also remember Eddie as we grew up playing softball at P.S. 107 in Summer School in the early 1960's. This "Bill C." who said "He was never that good, very cocky with a strong arm. We would always put him in rightfield or 2nd base." I don't remember that; I thought he was better than average. We played with Steve Occipenti. Sam D'Amato, John Durando, Donnie Hieghtmann, George Prevost, John Leonardo. Sandy Albano, Louie DelMonte etc. Eddie and I were both all arms and legs, skinny, and could run fast down the 45-foot baseline. I later met Eddie at Dodger Stadium in 1980 and the first thing he said to me after "Hello" was "You still run well?" Great memories of my days in Flushing.

Eddie Glynn lives in Virginia Beach, Va. My son was friends with a guy that rented a room in Eddie's house as he does rent rooms to individuals. House is not well-maintained and I see him out cutting the grass every few weeks without a shirt and his pot belly hanging out. Pool table in the garage for guys to hang out. Car is always home so I assume he lives off his investments from baseball and room rentals. Does not create any problems for the neighborhood and just keeps to himself.

I have a vague recollection of the Flushing Flash that he was able to throw a Frisbee with his feet.

Ed was a nice guy. I used to watch him work out at Shea. During the winter of 1984 I went to his house to get some baseball cards autographed. I hope to visit you at your house and ask for an autograph and talk about those good days.

Spoke to Eddie last night. He's well and living in Virginia Beach. I played Double A and Triple A with him in the Tiger organization back in 1975 and 1976 and we are best friends to this day. He reads this website and last nite we had a good laugh about some of the comments. Talk to you next week Ed!

Eddie Glynn and I attended Junior High School 189 in the mid 60’S. He probably doesn’t remember me, but we were good friends then. I later used to run into him at Adventure’s Inn, where there used to be an amusement park - a fun place for teenagers to hang out. I remember he used to have a baseball glove and ball, and would just be walking around, tossing the ball into his glove. Eddie, if you read this, get in touch. I still live in nyc. My email is hsbedi@gmail.com.
