HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

I played for Clint at a Met's fantasy camp in 1990 just when the Mets were about to fire Davey Johnson. I figured either Clint or Buddy Harrelson would be named manager, which Buddy was that year. I too could not figure out why Clint was not given the chance. Playing for him was a real experience, one that I will never forget. Maybe he was a bit too young to manage a group of young upcoming stars? Subsequent to that year, Clint ran into some personal troubles which did not help his case to manage in the bigs. A few years ago, he was 1st base coach for Colorado but was gone when they made coaching changes. Not sure where he is now but maybe someday we will see him in a Mets uniform.

I remember Clint Hurdle on the cover of Sports Illustrated's 1977 Baseball Preview issue. Pictured smiling by the batting cage in his baby-blue KC Royals uniform, with the headline: THIS YEAR'S PHENOM. After that, I always thought he was a great player just waiting to break out. Never really did however.

Outside of Clints family I consider myself as his #1 fan. In 1980 I flew from Orlando Fla. to K.C. for Sat.World Series game and sat with Clints parents at the game. We really had a great time. I flew back to Orlando that night and was an hour late for work. My son lived in K.C. then and they were good friends. In 1989 I had a stroke and was in the hospital and was really feeling about as low as you can get. Then I got a phone call from non other than Clint Hurdle. You talk about a picker upper that was it. I have about 160 of his baseball cards and 28 Sports Illustrated of 20 March 1978. He is now batting coach for the Rockies. He will be one of the next Major League managers.

I played for Clint at the fantasy camp in 1992 and he treated me with so much respect and dignity. I will never forget the experience. I was treated like one of the "fellas" even though I have a physical disability.

I have travelled to Scranton when he was managing the Tides and spoke to him before the game and we exchanged greetings.

I have the utmost respect for him and hope to see him managing a major league team in the near future.

This guy was pure bad luck. Did you ever notice that Mr. SI Cover boy was with the Mets in 85 and 87 and the Cardinals in 86? He was difinitely the bad luck charm in that rivalry.

I played high school baseball with Clint at Merritt Island and have followed his career since then. Every year he was with the Mets he would leave me tickets to sit with the players' wives. I was at the game when Clint's daughter Ashley was born. He hit a home run and then had to leave to meet his wife in the hospital. I have played a couple of years of fantasy camps with Clint to include last year with the Mets. He now manages the Colorado Rockies. My prediction is that he will become one of the best ML managers of all time!

One day when Clint was playing for the Mets I asked him to autograph an 8x10 photo for me. He gladly signed the photo and gave it back to me. He signed it Clint "Mo" Hurdle. I asked him what the "Mo" meant. his response was "cause I want mo money". He is a great guy.

Clint Hurdle was one of my favorite players growing up. One thing for sure though if baseball gave out awards for the hard luck stories of the 70's and 80's Clint would be on the list with names like Mark Fydrich, Rick Sofield and Joe Charboneau among others. Clint, I believe had the potential to be a super star but baseball's strange fate got in the way. Royals made a big mistake for the team and did a big misjustice for Clint by trading him to the Reds for pitcher Bob Tufts. Tuft's never made the cut for he Royals staff. Clint's old outfield slot went to Jerry Martin who would last barely two seasons before exiting baseball. Clint would see one side track after another by being on the Mets in '85 when the Cards went to the World Series and then joining the Cards in '86 when the Mets went to the series then back to the Mets when the Cards went back. I wish Clint the best of luck and have my fingers crossed that he'll be one of the best managers in baseball history one day. You show them you're the best Clint!

As a 12 year old growing up in the Tidewater area, I had the opportunity to attend a Tidewater Tides baseball camp headed by Clint Hurdle. I brought a few baseball cards to get them autographed...one of which was his 1987 Topps Cardinals card (picturing him late in his swing after contact), after presenting it to him to sign, he went on to tell me..."Oh yeah, I remember this at bat. I knocked a double off of Gooden....he was so pissed after that!" It was a great story and to this day when I look at that card, I think of that story, although I think he was just making it up.

I used to live at Shea in the 1980's. When Clint was with Mets he took the kids who were at Shea early in the morning over to the McDonalds sometimes and buy them breakfast. What a great guy!!

I played midget football with Clint in Merritt Island Fla. when we were kids. He was always athletic and I'm not surprised he has done so well.

I was behind the teller line at the Merritt Island Bank in Merritt Island, Florida when Clint Hurdle walked into the lobby. He handed me his bonus check from the K.C. A's. This young kid was polite and I could see promise in him, whatever he chose to accomplish. The bank was located at the same corner as the drive to the Merritt Island Mustang Football Stadium, where I watched every home game with him as the Mustang quarterback; he had a gun arm. I was surprised he chose baseball over college football, but look where he is now. I hope for the best in all his endeavors.
