Another charter member of the Dallas Green fan club, along with Burnitz, Hillman and a cast of others. Wasn't that bad after all.

I always thought this guy had an awesome curveball and I wasn't happy that Dallas Green ran him out of town. He had one great year with the Reds and nothing after that. Overall he never found his groove with the Mets and was pretty lousy. Looking back though every pitcher the Mets have ever had named Pete has sucked. Pete Schourek was probably the best of them- Pete Falcone, Pete Harnisch, Pete Smith. That's pretty sad. Please, no more Petes.

Long before the popular film came out, my friend Jimmy Wells and I would refer to Schourek as "Shrek."

Hollywood aside, Schourek never developed because of Dallas Green's abuse. I have to agree with one of the other posters, I think Schourek and Burnitz were the most (unfairly) blistered by their manager.

I'm surprised no one mentioned his one-hitter against the Expos in 1992. Pretty exciting game.

Joe, that one-hitter was on September 10, 1991 (his rookie season) at Shea. The only hit Schourek allowed came with two men out in the fifth when Montreal LF Ken Williams--whose career would end three weeks later with a grand total of 252 hits--singled to left.

Schourek walked two and struck out seven. It turned out to be the only complete game shutout Schourek pitched in his eleven years in the majors.

I get to play against Pete in a Recreational baseball league and have batted against him. He is a very humble guy and he's pretty cool.
