The thing about Don Florence is that I *don't have any* memories of him. I was looking at a record book a while back, saw Florence's 3-0 mark (most wins without a loss in club history), and said "Who WAS this guy?!"

Don was a middle reliever that I thought was pretty consistent. I think I scored one or two of those threewins. I'm not sure why the Mets didn't keep him, though. Anyone?

Everyone makes a huge deal that Craig Shipley was the only guy the Mets had that was from Australia. Well Don Florence is the only guy to ever play who came from New Hampshire-----what are the odds?

Don was the best athlete in New Hampshire in 1985. A great guy, one hell of a left arm. Could have played big time college football - QB - but followed his passion, baseball.

Yes - I'm a friend, but hell he did win 3 games against no defeats.

I remember wondering why they let this guy go and kept Doug Henry and Jerry DiPoto — the poster boys for the Mets' post-Jeff Innis/pre- Wendell-Cook middle relief woes. He was part Houdini (a 1.50 ERA while averaging 2 baserunners per inning!) and part run magnet. In his 3 wins, he pitched 3.1 innings and the Mets scored 8 runs for him (not counting the 4-spot they put up in the inning immediately after he left en route to win No. 3). Don, we hardly knew ye!

Don is my best friend. He was offered a minor league contract after that 1995 season. He felt he deserved a major league deal after the statistics he put up so he asked for free agency but was not lucky enough to find a major league team who wanted to put him on their roster. He finished up his career with the Rochester Red Wings.

He had a very productive minor league career and to make it into the big league is an accomplishment that most people never have a chance to do.

Don Florence is my dad's best friend and a great baseball player. I would also like to congratulate him on getting married to Jen 2 weeks ago.

Considered to be one of the best pitchers to have thrown for his Manchester (NH) Memorial High School baseball team, Don has been inducted into the MMHS HALL OF FAME - RED DIVISION - ATHLETES. He joins fellow alumni (who reached the "top" in their respective Pro sports) 1979 Cy Young winner Mike Flanagan - Orioles, Steve Balboni - Yankees, Chris Lambert - Cardinals, and Hubie McDonough III - NY Islanders (hockey). Along with those of the four other athletes mentioned, his matted and framed Mets game jersey now hangs on the Hall of Fame Wall at the high school as testament to his outstanding talent.
