How would you like to be the guy to take over for Cal Ripken? Probably as much fun as taking over centerfield for Joe DiMaggio........Except Alexander was no Mickey Mantle.

I thought Manny was right on the verge of becoming a very good player when the Mets traded him. I was totally upset at that trade but Manny fizzled and never really panned out after he left the Mets so in hind sight it was no big deal, kinda like losing Melvin Mora- who is probably better than Manny.

Manny was among the all time ugliest players ever to play for the Mets.

A standard issue middle infielder who was an average fielder, could hit a little, and had some speed. He was probably a 10% upgrade from Tim Bogar.

Though with the Orioles he was originally viewed as a potential starter, the Mets saw him as a bench player, though when the Cubs picked him up, they installed him in their infield for a while.

I live in Oklahoma, home of the Triple-A team for the Texas Rangers. Manny has become one of the best shortstops in the league over the last three years while playing for the Oklahoma Redhawks. Manny is now batting well over the .300 mark. I know when I think of the Oklahoma Redhawks Manny comes to mind, not young prospects 2B Ian Kinsler, LF/1B Jason Botts, or even C Gerald Laird. I hope that Manny ends his career on the best note that he can. I know when I am married and have kids and take them to ball games I will still remember Manny Alexander as one of the most awesome ball players of my childhood.

Cubs fan here. As a 12 year old in 1997, I attended my first game ever at Wrigley Field. The Cubs lost that day, but Manny Alexander hit a HR. The Cubs fans threw the ball back on the field, and I ended up with the baseball. I cherish it to this day, and I have been a HUGE Cubs fan ever since. I don't remember much about that day, but I do remember the fans throwing it back on the field and the bullpen giving it to me. I was the happiest kid in Chicago.
