HERE IS WHAT OTHER METS FANS HAVE TO SAY:

I remember when he first came up with the Braves and was pitching against the Mets. I'm not sure but it may have been his first start ever. He was highly touted as being able to fit in right along with the other Brave pitchers. I remember the Mets pounded him and I was not impressed at all. He was only 20 or 21 at the time but it doesn't look like he's set the world on fire since. He's no Rick Reed.

I just got back from tonight's game. Chen's first at Shea. He was awesome. 7 innings 2 hits no runs. For 3 and 2/3 he hadn't given up a hit and I thought, could he be the first? If someone's going to pitch a no hitter for the Mets you gotta hope it's a long time Met. The way Chen pitched tonight he may be around awhile. He may even make you forget Rick Reed. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but he definitely looked good.

Also, he was a Met fan as a kid.

I always did like Rick Reed, but Chen has been amazing with the Mets so far. Unfortunately, Reed hasn't been so great with the Twins.

Walking by a side entrance to Turner Field this past Friday afternoon, before seeing the game, I saw Bruce Chen emerge from the stadium with his equipment bag. Very excited to encounter one of the Mets up close and personal, I said, "Bruce! Good to see you! Go get 'em!". A few minutes later I started to wonder, Why was he leaving the stadium more than two hours before game time? When I found out he'd just been traded, I thought, "just my luck! I meet a Met but he's not a Met anymore! Not only that but they're shipping him to Montreal!". Well, I hope he has good luck there. I think the kid's got a lot of talent waiting to bust out.

I just read my comments from 2001. I must have been drunk. Bruce is employed because there are 30 teams in baseball. He may pitch well ocasionally but he's certainly not someone you can rely on. Currently on his 6th team over the past 4 years. At this pace he could do all 30 before he retires.

Just dropped by the Red Sox, his 7th team. He won't be 26 for another 2 weeks but he has played for 7 major league teams. I hope he goes to Florida to round out the NL East before moving onto the NL Central where he has already played for the Reds and Astros.

Just threw his first complete game shut out the other night for the Orioles, his 8th team. At age 27, he should easily play for a dozen teams or more before it's all over. I'm rooting for him to surface somewhere else next year. I'd love to see him hit a dozen. This guy's career fascinates me. Go Bruce!

It's astounding that Bruce Chen could have had such a respectable season this year: 12-7, ERA not much over 4, for the Royals no less. I saw a good piece on scout.com that went into much more detail about how unexpected this was.
