Marlin McPhail was a rare stud from Colgate at the time Ron Darling was at Yale. He hit .300 for the juggernaut 1983 Lynchburg Mets and would return the system after his playing career ended, managing the Tides while Bobby Valentine took a leave of absence for diverticulitis surgery, and eventually rising to the top of their scouting chain, where I believe he continues today.
