In 1963 Jeff Brown from Texas and I, Kenny Marshall from Virginia had signed contracts with the New York Mets. Both just out of High School. And we were both signed with The Quincy Jets which was affiliated with Class A, Mid-West League. We arrived in mid June with the season well underway. Jeff and I became real good friends and worked well together trying to figure out this new life of baseball! We both had limited playing time but we learned a lot from the team and our manager, Sheriff Roberson. In 1964 Jeff and I joined together again at Spring Training in Sanford, Florida. We were living a life-long dream. It was a great experience. We were roommates, the meals at the Resort Hotel were great, we joined other players after practice for basketball in the hotel pool, finish off the evening with 5-card draw. We both were assigned to an Auburn, New York contract, in the N Y P League, class A. At Auburn we were roommates. We both were getting more playing time. I finished the season at Auburn where we won the league championship and the Governors Cup. Jeff was promoted to AA Williamsport. I never heard from him again. I have often thought and wondered!!!
