My girlfriend comes from a small town (Batavia, Illinois) of about 1800. Of these 1800 from about 1962 on this little town produced Byron and Bruce von Hoff, baseball NY Mets; Dan Issel, NBA of the Denver Nuggets; and Kenny Anderson NFL quarterback Cinn. Bengals. Top that off with sports analyst Craig Sager. All these guys went to the same high school just about the same time. Go figure.

I met Byron 20 years after his Mets days, He went on to serve his country for 20+ years and retired from the IL Army National Guard as a LT COL. A lot of us who worked with him did not know he had worn a different uniform in his younger years. He autographed a ball to my young son one day after a senior staff meeting, which was a big surprise for a 12-year-old that evening. Thanks again Byron.
