WOW, Jeff Bittiger. What a great guy! Jeff was from, I believe, Moonachie, NJ (or close by!) I was from Belleville, NJ. Jeff was Spring Training with the Mets in St. Pete Florida, in the early 80s. Jeff asked me out on a date and took me to Busch Gardens in Tampa Florida. What a great date! AND What a sweet guy. Over the years, I still hear his name from time to time. He was an awesome pitcher and is still recognized for that by the sportscasters. I wish I knew where he was now.

I agree; Jeff was a great person! His father used to drive 9 hours to watch Jeff pitch every game he started. Greatness must be in the genes!

What a great guy! Met him during the Jackson Mets era. He went out on a date with one of my friends. He was a gentleman. Where is he now and what's going on with him these days?

Jeff is now director of player development for the Lehigh Valley Baseball Academy and a scout for the Oakland A's. For many years he was a player-coach in indie-league ball, mostly with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. He was still on the mound as late as 2002, aged 40.

I played Little League baseball with Jeff in 1978-1980, real nice guy. I was his catcher. The first time I caught him he struck out the side on 9 pitches. I never seen a curve like his at that age. He could hit too. In 1980 he was drafted by the Mets and me by the Orioles. He had a tremendous minor league career in Fargo, ND. Jeff was also a great QB for Secaucus High School. I seen him play once while visiting a mutual friend from Secaucus. I believe he lives in Shanksville PA now and has some health issues. (I heard through the grapevine he has a brain tumor.) I wish I could still see him and have a beer together.
