Since Callaway had spent his entire major league career in the American League as a pitcher and a coach, it was puzzling why Alderson hired DiSarcina since he had also spent his entire career in the American League also as a coach for the Boston Red Sox. Shouldn’t either the new Mets manager or bench coach have had, at least, some prior experience in the National League? Apparently, only Sandy Alderson knows why.

Evidently, DiSarcina did not work out very well as the Mets’ bench coach, because the next year DiSarcina was switched to serve as the team’s third base coach.

Previous Mets third base coach Tim Teufel was “reassigned” from his coaching job, when Teufel unfortunately sent slow-as-molasses Met player Wilmer Flores home on a hit to the outfield, resulting in Flores stumbling in the basepath, sustaining an injury and being easily tagged out on the play. DiSarcina also committed the same blunder, when he sent the equally slow-footed Pete Alonso home on a play, only to have the Met first baseman thrown out at home plate by a mile.

With current Met manager Luis Rojas having been shown the Citi Field door today, can Met coach Gary DiSarcina also be be “invited” not to let the Citi Field clubhouse door hit him in the caboose on his way out of the stadium?
